Paris – The only vehicle which the “Lion” has been missing since ever is a Sport Utility Vehicle, but now things have changed: Peugeot listened to its customers’ requires, and it eventually produced the first Peugeot SUV. Like Outlander and C-Crosser, also Peugeot 4007 is created in partnership with Mitsubishi. We have laready tested Mitsubishi Outlander and Citroen C- Crosser, so Infomotori.co.uk could not miss to test also the new Peugeot SUV, so this time we took the airplane and we flied into Paris. Family feeling The launch of new Sport Utility Vechicle’s proposals of the Group has been officially announced for summer 2007. In term of design, Peugeot 4007 keeps that recognizable and famous family feeling look, that “shark mouth”, or “big smile” shape, as you prefer, which features all the models of the French manufacturer. Therefore, the structure of the front is the main protagonist in this middle-sized SUV (4,64 meters long), with its wide radiator grill, the definitive lights, the big central lion logo, and the air intakes on the side of the front bumper, next to the big radiator grill. Moreover, Peugeot 4007 allows a wide side view, and is characterized by the transparent roof, perfectly in tune with the project developed by Citroen, while the rear still keeps in tune with a stylistic trend that aims to give reliability and hardiness feeling. We still do not know much about the interior, but it is supposed to guarantee good comfort to compete in the aggressive and “crowded” SUV segment. Powetrain Peugeot 4007 is equipped with a 2,2 Hdi diesel common rail engine, which offers an output of 156 hp. The vehicle also features a peak torque of 380 Nm, accompanied with a standard anti particulate FAP active filter, with improved performances (DPFS). This engine is the result of a partnership with Ford Group, and it can work with a 30% bio-fuel and diesel mix. The idea is that of offering an eco- friendly SUV, to follow euro standards and new customers exigences, as worldwide customers seem to appreciate more and more this kind of vehicle. Peugeot 4007 also features 6-speed gear box, and front MacPherson and rear multi-link suspensions, for a high level of comfort, and good performances even on hard roads. Moreover the vehicle has in common with the C-Crosser also the three steps gear box: four driving wheels, two driving wheels and a structure dedicated to low adherence situation. On the road Let’s jump inside the cab, and start the 4 cylinders HDi engine. We can soon appreciate the diesel unit, as it shows to be particularly agile among the city traffic. The wheel-drive is excellent, and it allows an outstanding behaviour both on the road and off-road, togetehr with a good stability control. In addition, the cab is roomy and comfortable. As far as the braking system is concerned, we can also say it is good and precise, while we can not say the same for the gear, as it soemtimes seems not to be very precise. Price? As far as the Italian market is concerned, there will be two ersions available, equipped with the same powertrain: the Tecno 2.2 16V Hdi of 160 hp is priced at 33.500 euros, and the 2.2 Feline version will cost 37.100 euros.
